Guidelines for space and area calculation:
For placement of cocktail tables and tables as individual units:
1. (Cocktail) Table 60×60 cm with 4 chairs/bar stools: approx. 4.40 m² = approx. 1.1 m² per person
2. (Cocktail) Table 80×80 cm with 4 chairs/bar stools: approx. 5.30 m² = approx. 1.33 m² per person
3. (Cocktail) Table 120×80 cm with 4-6 chairs/bar stools: approx. 6.20 m² = approx. 1.55 – 1.05 m² per person
4. (Cocktail) Table 160×60 cm with 6-8 chairs/bar stools: approx. 6.50 m² = approx. 1.1 – 0.82 m² per person
(Note: For events with more than 200 persons, the VStättV(O) applies – see below)
5. (Cocktail) Table 160×80 cm with 6-8 chairs/bar stools: approx. 7.15 m² = approx. 1.2 – 0.9 m² per person
(Note: For events with more than 200 persons, the VStättV(O) applies – see below)
7. (Cocktail) Table 180×100 cm with 6-8 chairs/bar stools: approx. 8.25 m² = approx. 1.38 – 1.04 m² per person
(Note: For events with more than 200 persons, the VStättV(O) applies – see below)
7. (Cocktail) Table 180×100 cm with 6-8 chairs/bar stools: approx. 8.25 m² = approx. 1.38 – 1.04 m² per person
8. (Cocktail) Table 70 cm round with 4 chairs/bar stools: approx. 4.85 m² = approx. 1.22 m² per person
9. (Cocktail) Table 90 cm round with 4-5 chairs/bar stools: approx. 5.75 m² = approx. 1.44 – 1.15 m² per person
10. (Cocktail) Table 150 cm round with 6-8 chairs/bar stools: approx. 9 m² = approx. 1.5 – 1.13 m² per person
11. (Cocktail) Table 180 cm round with 8-10 chairs/bar stools: approx. 11 m² = approx. 1.38 – 1.1 m² per person
If tables are arranged differently than individually (e.g., as banquet-style, U-shape, etc.), the calculation is always based individually on the selected arrangement. In these cases, we are happy to advise you personally.
Additionally, the following reference values may be used (not an excerpt from the VStättV(O)):
1. Cocktail tables without bar stools: approx. 0.25 m² per person (Note: For events with more than 200 persons, the VStättV(O) applies – see below)
2. Theater seating: approx. 1.3 m² per person
3. Classroom seating: approx. 2 m² per person
4. U-shape seating: approx. 3 m² per person
For furnishing with lounge furniture, no standard space and area calculation is possible, as this always depends on the requirements of the event, trade show, or conference. We are happy to advise you personally in this case.
If bartenders and/or chefs are to work behind a bar and/or buffet station, a minimum distance of approx. 1 m to the next object or wall should be maintained.
The distance in front of a bar and/or buffet station to the next object should be approx. 2 m so that guests have sufficient space to queue.
The buffet station and/or bar area per person cannot be specified as a standard, as this always depends on the individual requirements of the caterer and the selection of food and beverages. Please consult your caterer or chef regarding this.
Important excerpts from the Assembly Facilities Ordinance relevant to the temporary furnishing of spaces (applies to events with more than 200 persons):
1. For seats at dining or cocktail tables: 1 person per m² of floor area of the assembly room
2. For seats in rows and/or standing places: 2 persons per m² of floor area of the assembly room
3. For standing places on stepped rows: 2 persons per linear meter of stepped row
4. For exhibition rooms: 1 person per m² of floor area of the assembly room
Escape routes:
1. Assembly facilities must have at least two independent structural escape routes on each floor with occupiable rooms; this applies correspondingly to grandstands. Routing both escape routes within one floor through a common required corridor is permissible. Escape routes may lead via balconies, roof terraces, and external staircases to the property if they are safely passable in case of fire.
2. Escape routes may be routed through foyers or halls to exits to the outside, provided at least one additional structural escape route independent of the foyer or hall exists.
3. Assembly facilities must have escape routes assigned only to those floors for floors with more than 800 visitor seats each.
4. Assembly rooms and other occupiable rooms with more than 100 m² of floor area must each have at least two exits to the outside or to escape routes, positioned as far apart and in opposite directions as possible.
5. Exits and escape routes must be permanently and clearly marked with safety signs.
6. The distance from each visitor seat to the nearest exit from the assembly room or from the grandstand may not exceed 30 m. For clear heights exceeding 5 m, an extension of the distance by 5 m is permissible for each additional 2.5 m of clear height above the level to be smoke-ventilated for that area. The distance of 60 m to the nearest exit may not be exceeded.
7. The distance from any point on a stage to the nearest exit may not exceed 30 m. Corridors between the walls of the stage and the cyclorama or decorations must have a clear width of 1.20 m; these corridors must be present on large stages.
8. The distance from any point of a required corridor or foyer to the exit to the outside or to a required stairwell may not exceed 30 m.
9. The width of escape routes is to be determined according to the maximum possible number of persons. The clear width of each part of escape routes must be at least 1.20 m. The clear width of each part of escape routes must be at least the following for the persons dependent on them:
– Outdoor assembly facilities and sports stadiums: 1.20 m per 600 persons
– Other assembly facilities: 1.20 m per 200 persons
Increments are only permissible in steps of 0.60 m. For exits from occupiable rooms with less than 200 m² of floor area and for escape routes in the stage house, a clear width of 0.90 m is sufficient. For exits from occupiable rooms with no more than 200 visitor seats and for escape routes in the stage house, a clear width of 0.90 m is sufficient. 10. Distances are measured along the walking line.
Seating:
1. Seats arranged in rows must be immovably fastened; if chairs are only temporarily set up, they must be firmly connected to each other in the individual rows. The above does not apply to restaurants and canteens, nor to designated areas of assembly rooms with no more than 20 seats and without steps, such as boxes.
2. The seating areas of grandstands in assembly facilities with more than 5,000 visitor seats must have immovably fastened individual seats.
3. Seats must be at least 0.50 m wide. A clear passage width of at least 0.40 m must be present between rows of seats.
4. Seats must be arranged in blocks of no more than 30 rows of seats. Aisles with a minimum width of 1.20 m must be present behind and between the blocks.
The aisles must lead to the exit by the shortest possible route.
5. A maximum of ten seats may be arranged to the side of an aisle, or a maximum of 20 seats in outdoor assembly facilities and sports stadiums. Between two side aisles, 20 seats may be arranged, or a maximum of 40 seats in outdoor assembly facilities and sports stadiums.
In assembly rooms, a maximum of 50 seats may be arranged between two side aisles if a door with a clear width of 1.20 m is present on each side of the assembly room for every four rows of seats.
6. From each table seat, the path to an aisle may not exceed 10 m. The distance from table to table should not be less than 1.50 m.
